Next Move is a powerful force in moving homeless individuals and adults with children to higher levels of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Started in 1972, housing just seven homeless families, we now serve an average of 500 participants each day.
Did you know that almost all shelters require single fathers with daughters to be split up at night? The same goes for single mothers with sons. Next Move is one of only two shelters in Sacramento county that has a primary focus on keeping families together in our Family Shelter, accepting two-parent families, single fathers, and sons over the age of 14. We are the only shelter that offers these families a private room.
Your donations to Next Move provide a wide variety of critical services to homeless individuals and families. All donations are meaningful no matter the amount.

Next Move is dedicated to creating a pleasant, helpful, and fun environment in which our volunteers are utilized at all levels of the agency. We are committed to actively recruiting volunteers that reflect the cultural diversity and needs of our community. In addition, we will participate in ongoing, reciprocal exchanges of information and ideas with our volunteers in order to actively increase the level of quality services that are afforded to our clients.

At a time when organizations are closing and services are being cut back, Next Move is expanding services to meet the needs of the growing homeless population in the Sacramento region. This expansion is about more than building a larger facility; it’s about getting more individuals, families and children get off the street, back on track and back home.
