Making Their Next Move: Real Journeys from Homelessness to Home
Real People. Real Progress. Real Change.
At Next Move Homeless Services, every journey matters. We’re proud to share the powerful stories of individuals and families who have taken bold steps toward self-sufficiency and stability. These are their journeys—full of resilience, courage, and hope.
Since our founding in 1972, starting with just seven homeless families, Next Move has grown into a vital lifeline for Sacramento’s most vulnerable. Today, we serve an average of 500 participants every day—offering housing, support, and a path forward.
Did you know that most shelters separate families based on gender? Single fathers with daughters, and mothers with teenage sons, are often forced to split up. At Next Move, we believe families should stay together. Our Emergency Family Shelter is one of only two in Sacramento County that accepts two-parent families, single fathers, and males over the age of 14—and we’re the only one that offers private family rooms.
Through our programs and services, and with the help of our community, our clients are making their Next Move—toward safety, dignity, and a brighter future.
